To get the certificate, they're judged on everything from food to cleanliness. The letters stand for Overseas Quality Restaurant, an award given to restaurants in Los Angeles and Orange County that represent the best in Taiwanese food. It's the one you'll need if you want to search out good Taiwanese food. What an experience! What a meal! I will definitely be back.Need a new acronym? Then add OQR to your list. my tongue and lips are numb!» It feels like Novocain! We laughed and laughed at our initial thoughts and then ran home to Google it and find that most likely the soups contained the Sichuan Pepper. I was sipping my broth and contemplating whether or not I was beginning to experience an allergic reaction and is this what it felt like when my BF states «something is wrong. I have never had my tongue and lips go numb while eating.
I have been around the world and eaten in many countries. Every bite just bursts with spicy goodness. The pork pies were ground pork seasoned with chili’s and green onions and wrapped in what appeared to be large wonton wrappers. The beef in the noodles was perfectly cooked and just melted in your mouth. Once the decisions ended the experience began… What incredible flavor in everything we ate! The spicy wontons in Chili sauce had the most amazing combination of Asian flavors and heat. After looking around w at the other patron’s dishes we decided upon the Spicy Beef noodle soup, The Spicy Wonton in Chili Sauce and the pork pies. We decided to try Wei Shian Noodles because they were new AND because their was an open table. This center is busy! And I mean it seems like every Asian in Irvine eats at one of about 15 restaurants here. After circling the parking lot over and over (if you’ve been there you know what I mean) we finally found a parking place. We have been to this little center on Jeffrey and Walnut many times to shop in the 99 store. «Honey am I dying?» We’ll get back to that later… Went to find a good Ramen soup for this cooler than usual Southern California day. Insects landing (and staying) in your food and the waiters lack of reaction to those insects. So in conclusion… I would pick any of the other restaurants in that jeffrey &walnut plaza.
The only dish I liked there was the green beans… until the insect landed in it. The chili oil that they have on the table is pretty spicy so I had to add some of that. The spicy wontons weren’t that spicy either. Nothing compared to the beef soup of A &Js or like literally any other place I’ve been to. The noodles were overcooked and the beef was tough. It was extremely mediocre if anything… the spicy beef noodle was not that spicy… and it was pretty bland. Anyway… now on to the food… which is more reason not to come here.

As I stated earlier, I have minimal expectations when it comes to asian restaurants like this so I didn’t expect to get a free meal or anything… but I think they should apologize at the least… I wouldn’t want more food from the kitchen… since… who knows if these insects are landing and getting stuck in the food as its being cooked. I told him that this was the second bug that landed and got stuck on my food… and all he did was swap out my plate for a new one. At that point, I pretty much lost my appetite and complained to the waiter guy. We both assumed it was a one-time incident and decided not to complain about the bug and went on with our life… I seriously do not have high expectations when it comes to chinese restaurants… So a few minutes later, another one of those insects decides to land and gets stuck on my wonton on my plate. It seemed to be struggling to fly off the beans and remained stuck even when my friend picked up the bean with her chopsticks to put on her napkin. So, about halfway through our meal, a termite/fly looking insect decided to land on the green beans.
Before I share my thoughts on the food, I want to tell you guys about the bugs. We ordered spicy wontons, spicy beef noodle, and green beans to share. I came here for the first time with a friend today. Do not come here if you don’t want bugs in your food.
